Uche Echefu was born on February 11, 1986 and grew up in Lagos, Nigeria. His family settled in Maryland where he attended Montrose Christian High School. After graduating in 2005, Echefu headed to the Florida State Seminoles basketball program.

Uche Echefu is a strong force on the Florida Seminoles basketball team. Going into the 2008 season, Uche Echfu has started 68 of the last 69 games in the last two seasons.

Uche Echefu played as a true freshman in 2006 and averaged 2.3 points and 1.4 rebounds. By 2007, Uche Echefu was a starter in every game for the Florida Seminoles basketball team. He improved his averages to 6.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, 0.6 blocked shots per game and 0.8 steals.

In 2008, Uche Echefu had the experience and skill necessary to surpass his personal records again. He averaged 10.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.0 blocked shots and shot 460 from the field.
