Ryan Reid was born on October 30, 1986 and grew up in Lauderlale Lakes, Florida. He attended Boyd Anderson High School where he averaged 18.5 points, 13 rebounds and 3 blocked shots during his senior year.

As a true freshman in 2007, Ryan Reid was one of only 8 players who competed in all 16 ACC games. Reid averaged 2.9 points and 3.2 rebounds. He also averaged 16.1 minutes of playing time per game, very high for a freshman.

In 2008, Ryan Reid averaged 5.6 points and a career-high 5.0 rebounds. He also started in 21 games even though he did not start a single game as a freshman.
