Paul Griffin was born on October 12, 1985 and grew up in Pensacola, Florida. During his high school years, Paul Griffin was a strong football athlete and a top state weightlifter.

After high school, Paul Griffin spent a couple years at Butler County Community College. At Butler, Paul Griffin was considered a 4-star player and 2nd best defensive tackle in the nation among junior college athletes.

In 2006, Paul Griffin came to Florida State University, but was granted a medical redshirt after tearing his ACL and undergoing surgery.

In 2007, Paul Griffin was healed and rested up. He played primarily tackle and nose guard. He had a career high 24 tackles during the season.
