Mark Stoops has been the defensive coordinator for the Florida State Seminoles under legendary Bobby Bowden. Recently, with Bowden’s retirement, Jimbo Fisher has been promoted to the head coach position. This marks the beginning of a new era, since Bobby Bowden had been with Florida State for 34 years and had led them to 28 bowl games.
Coach Mark Stoops has had much success since he began coaching in 1989. Stoops started out at Iowa as a graduate assistant coach, before becoming the athletic director and defensive backs coach at Nordonia High School in Ohio until 1995. Mark Stoops was hired on as defensive backs coach for the South Florida Bulls from 1996 under Head Coach Jim Leavitt. Mark Stoops would continue on as the defensive backs coach for the University of Wyoming Cowboys from 1997 to 1999, until moving back to Florida- University of Miami Hurricanes. Eventually, Mark Stoops would be hired on to work for Florida State University where he currently has the defensive coordinator position.
Mark Stoops has had a lot of experience playing and coaching teams of all ages throughout his life, which has given him a deep understanding of the game of football. With Head Coach Jimbo Fisher, James Coley and Mark Stoops at the forefront of the Seminoles, Florida State is sure to continue their reign as an outstanding team in the conference.
