When most people think of Tallahassee, they think of palm trees and alligators. If you're a college football fan like me, then you think of the Florida State Seminoles. The Seminoles have only been playing on the gridiron since 1947, after the Dixie Conference was formed, including colleges from Georgia, Mississippi, and Tennessee. The Dixie Conference limited the amount of money spent on collegiate athlete's salaries, including athletic scholarships and focused on creating a conference founded on amateurism and not allowing athletic scholarships. Since 1992, the team has operated in the Atlantic Conference, and since being inducted to the ACC, the Florida State Seminoles have won the National Title twice.

Like most college teams from the same state, the Florida State Seminoles have a fierce rivalry with the Gators of the University of Florida and the University of Miami's Hurricanes. For the past nine years, Bobby Bowden, the head coach for the Florida State Seminoles, and his son, Tommy Bowden, head coach of the Clemson University Tiger's football team have played in a game known as the Bowden Bowl. Recently, the Atlantic Conference division lines were redrawn, exiling their fierce rival, Clemson University. In 2010, the conference lines will once again be redrawn and Clemson will be back in the Atlantic Conference and the rivalry will be heated up again.

Between the bedlam games and the race for their both their conference and national titles, the Florida State Seminoles have a winning record, a solid coaching staff, and some of the best college football fans in the nation.
